Product Description

Essential Cell Biology provides an accessible introduction to the fundamental concepts of cell biology. Its lively writing and exceptional illustrations make it the ideal textbook for a first course in cell and molecular biology. The text and figures are easy-to-follow, accurate, clear, and engaging for the introductory student. Molecular detail has been kept to a minimum in order to provide the reader with a cohesive, conceptual framework of the basic science that underlies our current understanding of biology.

The Third Edition is thoroughly updated scientifically, yet maintains the academic level and size of the previous edition. The book is accompanied by a Media DVD-ROM with over 130 animations and videos, all the figures from the book, and a new self-test quizzing feature for students.

5 out of 5 stars THE BEST!!   September 30, 2004

If u are a layman and want to know about the fascinating world of
cell biology, this is THE book to get!! It teaches u nearly everything from scratch (it starts from an atom's structure!!)and
very gently and lucidly leads you through the awesome workings of
the cell. Get through this book and u can easily & painlessly tackle ANY other magnum opus book like Lehninger, MBoC by Alberts or Lodish etc. ITS SIMPLY WONDERFUL!! THE BEST THAT IS OUT THERE!! You get to know all the important fundamental things about cells and more!! The new How We Know sections explain how
molecular biologists performed experiments and came to the conclusions they came. JUST GET THIS BOOK. YOU PROBABLY WON'T FIND A BETTER INTRODUCTORY BOOK ON CELL BIOLOGY!!

5 out of 5 stars Really Great Book   October 12, 2009

This book is really nice. It is organized well and has panels which visually describe certain concepts. The figures, schematics, and photos are very colorful and presented in a very helpful manner that expounds on the written information. The CD that comes with it is also very helpful.
